Sutton Place Residence

This sophisticated Sutton Place Residence on the Upper East Side features custom furniture and design by DHD. With it’s high ceilings and muted palate of greys, soft whites, and cool toned blues, the intent for this elegant apartment was to create an environment that was subtle and refined, yet maintained a warmth to it. With tall lacquered doors and beams on the ceilings the spaces feel quite grand. Specialty finishes were used throughout the home to add texture and pattern in light tones to the walls, including a high gloss lacquer in the entry area.  Accents of bronze, blackened metal, linen and cast glass were then woven into all custom millwork and bespoke pieces of furniture.

Custom designed blackened steel floating wall shelves were designed for either side of the fireplace in the living room to house the client’s collection of rare books and sculptures. We curated the placement of the client’s existing art collection that consists of many black and white works. The study was an opportunity to dive deep into rich indigo blues and blacks for a very rich environment where the client listens to his extensive vinyl collection. These walls were layered with Venetian plaster and the sofa wrapped in soft distressed black leather.

The elegant dining room received an expressive, vertical textured wall finish that has some metallic washed into it, which adds a glimmer in the evening light. The expansive stone slab table in a dark grey marble anchors the room on a deep, ribbed silk carpet.
